Around the year 2000, Warner took serious note of the urban landscapes painted
by Edward Hopper and local artist Patricia Chidlaw. Intrigued by the night landscape
paintings of local artist Thomas van Stein, he took painting classes to study this subject matter. For about a year he went oudoors 3 nights a week to paint using a lamp on his hat and book lamps on
his canvas in order to acquire knowledge of the night time palette. By combining
this knowledge with the techniques of his still life painting and studying the urban landscapes of Hopper and Chidlaw, Warner
was able to develop an approach to night time urban landscapes that is now one of his trademarks. Daytime urban landscapes and interior restaurant scenes are now also a part of his painting subjects.
